We ordered this train as a present for my son. It is a very cheaply made train set, which, I suppose, makes sense given the price. (We paid about $40.) My son was excited to have a train that would make smoke. The train set included an empty bottle. We figured out that the bottle was for adding water to the train and it then makes steam. The directions for how to do this were very poor. There was a picture on the train box that helped. We looked up the video instructions, but the link said the YouTube account for the video had been terminated.The Amazon page tells you that there are two versions of the train set and one is randomly chosen and sent to you. There are items in the pictures on Amazon that were not included in the set we received. My son was disappointed because there were certain components that our train set did not include. Isn’t this false advertising? Also, one train set uses oil for smoke and the other uses water for steam. There was nothing in the train set or directions that indicated ours should use water and not oil. I actually deduced that water was appropriate based on an image on the Amazon page.Overall, my son is happy with it (thus three stars rather than two), but I would not order this item again.

My 19 month old son sat and just watched this train for so long! He was memorized by the sounds and effects of it. We were pleasantly surprised at how realistic the train looked when we took it out of the box. I wish there were written instructions but it’s easy enough to figure out from the pictures on the box. If you put water, steam comes out as the train goes around and that’s super cool! It does have a slight smell to it but not for long. It would be even better if it was easy to get the train on the track. You have to make sure each wheel is on properly before starting but once it’s on and going, it doesn’t come off!

My boys wanted a train set because their grandpa is a conductor. I ordered this set for them as a surprise and they love it. The train does require AA batteries but once you turn it on it makes cute sounds and pulls the other cargo trains around. What I found really cool is that in the instructions they provide you several ways on how to build the track. Some are more complex than others! I found the track to be very simple to snap together and the little cardboard cut-outs of the objects to make it more real were easy to set up. The train set literally came with it all. They wanted to have a train under our Christmas tree this year and this just was the perfect piece to add in. I as well had a train around my tree so I am excited to bring these memories to my kids. Really this is a nice gift for just about all boys at most ages and it will bring hours of entertainment. I haven’t found any complaints yet.

I bought this train back in October for my nephew’s birthday, but he didnt get to open it until December 21st when I met him. It worked very well for 1 day with sound, smoke and light. But just 2nd day onwards the smoke would not come out of the train chimney when the train starts to move. Not sure what the problem is because the train is not damaged or broken and it is in brand new condition. My nephew is disappointed that the smoke is no longer coming from it, while the train seems to work just fine.

It was fun to have up during the Christmas season. The train is relatively big (about O scale) and easy to handle. Everything went together quickly and easily.It’s not terribly clear, but the set I bought has just a simple oval track.The little cardboard pop-outs of people and buildings are a little odd – they’re not in the same scale as the train, and keep falling down. Even my 4 year old grandson wasn’t impressed with them.I had no trouble with the smoke. It does need to be kept fed with the little dropper – one filling only lasts a couple of minutes.It has nice sound effects, and has preliminary sounds, then it starts slow and speeds up, a nice effect.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my child. I was going to keep it out for her year round but it’s so loud you can’t hear yourself think. It’s definitely only coming out at Christmas time I couldn’t handle hearing this thing everyday of the year it would drive me nuts.

I liked this as a gift to my inner child. For the price….I don’t think you could do better. The engine has an authentic vintage sound and steam vapor does actually come out of it. The tracks are sturdy and easy to assemble and the train stays on them as it does the circuit. A fun purchase!
